CAL EANGUS proudly sponsored the California State Commander’s Veterans Council Legislative Action Day, bringing together 15+ Veteran & Military Service Organizations to advocate for the issues that matter most to California’s Veterans. We were honored to hear from powerful voices like: ✅ Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo ✅ John Siepmann, Governor’s Military Council ✅ CalVet Secretary Lindsey Sin ✅ Senator Bob Archuleta From breakfast to lunch, we covered it all — including the event space — so our partners could focus on the mission: Veteran advocacy. The day wrapped with office visits to over 10 elected officials to push forward priority legislation, including the game-changing AB 53 – which would finally exempt military retirement pay from California state taxes. Baker testified before the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, voicing strong support for two pivotal bills: ✅ SB 1: Aims to eliminate state taxes on military retirement and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) payments, aligning California with the majority of states that already offer this exemption. This change would provide significant financial relief to over 141,000 military retirees and more than 27,000 SBP recipients in California. ​ ✅ SB 60: Seeks to expand the CalVet Fee Waiver and California GI Bill to include extended education courses that meet undergraduate degree requirements at public universities. Last night, we had the privilege of attending the California National Guard’s 2025 Service Member & Employee of the Year Awards Banquet, where we celebrated the dedication and achievements of our state’s finest. As a token of appreciation, CAL EANGUS proudly awarded each recipient a Life Membership in the California Enlisted Association, along with a one-of-a-kind Life Member mug—a small gesture to recognize their outstanding service and commitment.
