Today, CAL EANGUS State President Josh J. Baker joined Assemblymember James C. Ramos at a press conference to highlight the importance of AB 53, the Military Services Retirement and Surviving Spouse Benefit Payment Act.

President Baker addressed the press, emphasizing how AB 53 will provide much-needed tax relief by exempting up to $20,000 of military retirement pay and SBP annuities from California state income taxes. This bill ensures that California remains competitive with other states in retaining military retirees while supporting surviving spouses who have sacrificed so much.

We are proud to stand with Assemblymember Ramos and our partners in the fight to make California a better home for those who have served. Let’s get AB 53 passed! 💪

On March 17, 2025, CAL EANGUS State President Josh J. Baker provided expert testimony in support of Assemblymember James C. Ramos' AB 53, the Military Services Retirement and Surviving Spouse Benefit Payment Act. This bill seeks to exempt up to $20,000 of military retirement pay and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuities from California state income taxes, offering crucial relief to our veterans and their families.

Joining him in support was Peter Cross, President of the National Guard Association of California (NGAC), showcasing a unified effort by both professional associations that represent California National Guardsmen.

✅ GI Bill Parity Bill – Ensuring Guardsmen receive credit for everyday served in uniform.
✅ TRICARE for All Bill – Expanding healthcare access to all National Guard members.
✅ Childcare Tax Credit Initiative – Supporting Guardsmen with access to affordable childcare to attend drill.

These issues matter, and we’re proud to be the voice for those who serve. It’s time for real change to ensure our Guardsmen are supported and honored for their service.
