Located at Los Alamitos, the Sunburst Youth Academy is operated by the California Military Department under the Youth & Community Programs. The Sunburst Youth Academy is Southern California’s premier residential leadership academy for teens. This free program seeks to help develop the self confidence, discipline, life skills and education necessary to become successful adults and fulfill the potential they have within themselves.
The SYA employs California Guardsmen as its cadre and members will be in a State Active Duty status.ย There is not a MOS or AFSC requirement and training will be conducted in-house for all
positions.ย Applicants can be in the grades of E-5 through E-7 and this
position rarely comes available.ย SAD Employees will be paid at their grade or at the duty position (whichever is lower) and collect BAH for the location of the assignment (Los Alamitos).
