EANGUS: A Proud Name, A Dedicated Service

Purpose

The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) is organized in the fifty-five states and territories and National Capitol area. Its objective is to further the interests of enlisted personnel of the Army and the Air National Guard through the legislative process and to administer the support services necessary to carry out that objective.

History

The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) was conceived in 1970 when a group of enlisted members of the National Guard met to consider ways and means of increasing the voice of enlisted personnel in support of making the Guard a more effective arm of National Defense. As a result of three early meetings, the formal organization of EANGUS was accomplished in 1972 with twenty-three states signing on as charter members. In the ensuing fifteen years, charters have been granted to all 55 states and territories. EANGUS today is a national organization in every respect, with the national headquarters and full-time staff situated in Alexandria, VA.

Area VII

EANGUS is composed of seven areas. Area VII consists of California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska and Guam. Once a year an Area VII Caucus meeting is held in a host state, usually within the first three months of the year. California holds their meetings in May and September. The May meeting (Spring) is held in a Southern area of the state and the September meeting (Fall) is held in the Northern area of the state. EANGUS annual meeting is held once a year and is rotated among the States that bid for the conference, usually about the August timeframe.
