Brig Gen Steven Butow, Commander, CA Air National Guard, announced on 12 November 2021 he selected Command Chief Michael Hunt for the position of State Command Chief.ย Chief Hunt previously served as the Command Chief for the 195th Wing, Headquartered at Beale AFB and will fill the position vacated by Chief Lynn Williams who was selected as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the California National Guard.ย Chief Hunt enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1985 as a Ground Radio Operator. In 1990, Chief Hunt enlisted in the California Air National Guard with the 162nd Combat Communication Group as a Radio Operator. Later that year he transferred to the Headquarters, California Air National Guard in the Personnel career field. His background includes various positions including High Frequency Radio Operator, Combat Crew Communications Specialist, Personnel Specialist, Personnel Systems Manager, Human Resources Specialist, California Military Department J1 Superintendent, 386th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron Superintendent, and 129th Maintenance Group Superintendent. Chief Hunt has participated in numerous Partnership for Peace events in Ukraine, supported various disaster relief efforts including Operation Gulf Coast Relief, supported Operation El Dorado Canyon, and deployed in support of Operations Inherent Resolve and Freedomโs Sentinel.
