On August 27, 2022, Jake’s Journey Home (JJH), a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, community-based volunteer organization assisting unhoused veterans and community members in a life-path change through wrap-around support services, held its annual fundraiser-a motorcycle poker run.ย Starting at the Folsom Harley-Davidson dealership, participants rode thru the foothills through the communities of Plymouth and Placerville, returning to Folsom at the Eagles Nest.
The ride and the non-profit organization was inspired by Jake Shuman, a Seabee Veteran and small business owner passed away unexpectedly — leaving behind loving friends and family, as well as a legacy of empathy, generosity, and humility.
“As someone always willing to share time, resources, and opportunities; respect was at the very heart and essence of my son. While he is in a better place now, our non-profit: Jake’s Journey Home is going to continue Jake Shuman’s legacy of doing what you can to help someone’s tomorrow be better than today.” -Jeanne Shuman.
The CAL-EANGUS board approved $500 to support JJH and provide sponsorship for the annual fundraiser.ย State President Josh J. Baker and Life Associate Member Kelly Baker participated in the ride, representing CAL-EANGUS.
Shortly after CAL-EANGUS provided the donation, Jeanne Shuman contacted President Baker to notify the board that JJH recently took in a past California National Guardsmen who was unhoused and had fallen on hard times.ย The financial support will help JJH connect the Veteran to essential and basic services, help with their past legal troubles and provide housing.
