On October 25, 2023, California Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (CAL-EANGUS) President Josh J. Baker penned a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom encouraging him to include the funding of AB46 when the budget is drafted.
AB46, Exemption of Military Retirement from State Income Taxes, introduced by Assemblymember James Ramos was unanimously passed by the State Assembly and has received strong bipartisan support in the California Senate.ย AB46 was moved to a 2-year bill by the Senate Appropriations Committee – giving Assembleymember Ramos time to have discussions with elected officials to determine how the bill will be funded.
During the Fall California State Commanders Veterans Council (CSCVC), it was determined that all 28 State Veterans Organizations within the CSCVC draft a letter to the Governor – as well as each organization’s respective members – to encourage the Governor to include the funds in the 2024 budget.
Below is a copy of the letter that was sent to Governor Newsom. It is encouraged that all members draft their own letters and mail them to the Governor’s Office to include the funding for AB46 in the upcoming budget.
