The Sergeants Major Association of California (SMAofCA) continues to set the standard for connection, tradition, and leadership within California’s senior enlisted community. Their June 2025 newsletter offers a comprehensive look at recent updates, upcoming initiatives, and the continued impact of the Association’s outreach—especially through the Chaplain’s Fund.
Hosted at Camp San Luis Obispo, the 2025 Annual Meeting brought together retired and active Senior NCOs to review standing orders, launch new committees, and reaffirm SMAofCA’s purpose: to care for California’s enlisted force. One of the meeting’s most memorable moments was the unveiling of a new SMA sign displayed at Parker Hall, the result of months of collaboration and volunteer work from dedicated members.
The newsletter also shares meaningful reflections from CSM (Ret.) Ron Cabrera, SMA Chaplain, highlighting the increasing operational tempo at Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos and reminding members of the importance of spiritual readiness and the Chaplain’s Fund—a vital resource available to service members facing financial hardship.
Other highlights include:
-
The formation of committees to update By-Laws and expand membership outreach
-
Guidance on how to submit Chaplain Fund requests
-
A list of former members the association is seeking to reconnect with
-
Information on dues renewal and how to donate via Zelle or mail
-
A reminder that the next SMA Annual Meeting is scheduled for September 25–27, 2026, again at Camp San Luis Obispo
CAL EANGUS encourages all members and supporters to read the full newsletter and consider getting involved in the great work being done across the state.
