In a powerful demonstration of unity, the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS), the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS), and the Reserve Organization of America (ROA) have joined forces to call on Congress to take immediate action to prevent a government shutdown.

On September 29, 2025, the three organizations sent a joint letter to Congressional leadership urging swift passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations for Defense, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs. The letter highlighted the severe consequences a shutdown would impose on service members, their families, and the readiness of the total force.

“A government closure would have severe consequences on the total force, undermining readiness and the ability to prepare and respond to our nation’s threats,” the organizations wrote.

The letter underscored that continuing resolutions freeze funding at outdated levels, stall new programs, and delay critical modernization efforts. With adversaries challenging U.S. interests globally and threats such as cyberattacks, natural disasters, and transnational crime growing at home, the need for uninterrupted readiness is urgent.

In addition, the letter called for passage of the Pay Our Troops Act (H.R. 5401) should a shutdown occur, ensuring that service members and civilian employees receive their pay and allowances without disruption.

This collaboration between NGAUS, EANGUS, and ROA demonstrates the strength of collective advocacy. By speaking with one voice, our associations amplify the concerns of Guard and Reserve members and ensure policymakers in Washington understand the stakes for national security and military families.
