As the federal government shutdown continues, professional associations representing the Total Force are working together to ensure that service members and their families are not left without pay. On October 2, 2025, the National Guard Association of the U.S. (NGAUS), the Adjutants General Association of the U.S. (AGAUS), the Reserve Organization of America (ROA), and the Enlisted Association of America (EANGUS) jointly delivered letters to both the House and Senate, imploring lawmakers to swiftly introduce and pass the Pay Our Troops Act of 2026 (H.R. 5401).

The letters emphasize that a government shutdown disrupts training, cancels drill weekends, degrades readiness, and forces service members to report for duty without pay—placing undue hardship on military families and morale across the force.

The Pay Our Troops Act of 2026 provides the necessary funding to ensure that all members of the Armed Forces and Department of Defense civilian employees continue to receive pay until regular appropriations are enacted, or through January 1, 2027.

This collaborative advocacy effort sends a clear message: while the government may be shut down, professional associations like NGAUS, AGAUS, ROA, and EANGUS remain on duty, fighting for our men and women in uniform.
