On October 4, 2025, the 49th Military Police Brigade hosted its annual Brigade Ball aboard the USS Hornet in Alameda, California—a celebration rich in military tradition, camaraderie, and pride. This year, CAL EANGUS was proud to play a special role in making the event more accessible for the junior enlisted members who represent the future of our force.
Recognizing the importance of participation in time-honored military customs, the 49th MP Ball Committee approached CAL EANGUS seeking a way to involve more E-1 through E-4 Soldiers in this year’s celebration. In response, the CAL EANGUS Board of Directors voted to sponsor tickets for junior enlisted members who might otherwise have been unable to attend.
“The 49th MP Ball Committee approached CAL EANGUS looking for a way to involve more junior enlisted members and entice them to attend,” said CAL EANGUS President CMSgt Josh J. Baker. “The CAL EANGUS Board and the Committee decided CAL EANGUS would sponsor Jr. Enlisted (E-1 – E-4) tickets, and CAL EANGUS sponsored 46 tickets. We wanted to eliminate a barrier for junior enlisted in attending and being a part of military tradition and history.”
The initiative was a tremendous success—more than forty-six junior enlisted Soldiers were able to attend, creating a vibrant and inclusive evening that blended all ranks and branches of service. The event showcased one of the most joint-service celebrations in recent memory, with Army, Air Force, and Navy members in attendance.
In a moment of appreciation, Colonel Smith, Commander of the 49th Military Police Brigade, recognized President Josh J. Baker and CAL EANGUS for their outstanding support. Colonel Smith presented President Baker with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Brigade for the association’s efforts to ensure Soldiers could fully participate in this meaningful event.
CAL EANGUS’s sponsorship and continued engagement highlight its commitment to supporting enlisted members not only through legislative advocacy but also through direct action that fosters morale, unity, and connection across the Guard community.
As President Baker reflected, “Moments like these remind us that CAL EANGUS isn’t just about policy—it’s about people.”
