Last night, we had the privilege of attending the California National Guard’s 2025 Service Member & Employee of the Year Awards Banquet, where we celebrated the dedication and achievements of our state’s finest.

As a token of appreciation, CAL EANGUS proudly awarded each recipient a Life Membership in the California Enlisted Association, along with a one-of-a-kind Life Member mug—a small gesture to recognize their outstanding service and commitment.

📢 CAL EANGUS Stands with Assemblymember James Ramos for AB 53! 🇺🇸

Today, CAL EANGUS State President Josh J. Baker joined Assemblymember James C. Ramos at a press conference to highlight the importance of AB 53, the Military Services Retirement and Surviving Spouse Benefit Payment Act.

President Baker addressed the press, emphasizing how AB 53 will provide much-needed tax relief by exempting up to $20,000 of military retirement pay and SBP annuities from California state income taxes. This bill ensures that California remains competitive with other states in retaining military retirees while supporting surviving spouses who have sacrificed so much.

We are proud to stand with Assemblymember Ramos and our partners in the fight to make California a better home for those who have served. Let’s get AB 53 passed! 💪

📢 Advocating for Our Military Retirees! 🇺🇸

On March 17, 2025, CAL EANGUS State President Josh J. Baker provided expert testimony in support of Assemblymember James C. Ramos' AB 53, the Military Services Retirement and Surviving Spouse Benefit Payment Act. This bill seeks to exempt up to $20,000 of military retirement pay and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuities from California state income taxes, offering crucial relief to our veterans and their families.

Joining him in support was Peter Cross, President of the National Guard Association of California (NGAC), showcasing a unified effort by both professional associations that represent California National Guardsmen.

Both bills were unanimously passed by the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee and will move on to the next Committees for approval.

This week, the CAL-EANGUS delegation had the honor of visiting elected representatives’ offices on Capitol Hill to educate lawmakers on critical issues impacting our National Guardsmen.

We advocated for:
✅ GI Bill Parity Bill – Ensuring Guardsmen receive credit for everyday served in uniform.
✅ TRICARE for All Bill – Expanding healthcare access to all National Guard members.
✅ Childcare Tax Credit Initiative – Supporting Guardsmen with access to affordable childcare to attend drill.

These issues matter, and we’re proud to be the voice for those who serve. It’s time for real change to ensure our Guardsmen are supported and honored for their service.

There are over 100 of EANGUS advocates who traveled from far away states to advocate on your behalf.
