General Expectations for All CAL EANGUS Board Members

As representatives of the enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of California, all CAL EANGUS Board Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to service. Board Members serve not only as leaders within the association but also as ambassadors of the enlisted voice across the state and nation.

All Board Members Are Expected To:

  • Actively Participate in Meetings: Attend and contribute to all scheduled monthly virtual Executive Council meetings and any special sessions as called by the President.

  • Engage in State and National Events: Be willing to travel to represent CAL EANGUS at official events, conferences, and legislative visits.

  • Travel Compensation: Travel on behalf of CAL EANGUS to approved official events (such as the State Conference, EANGUS National Conference, or designated legislative engagements) is eligible for reimbursement or direct travel funding, in accordance with association travel policies and budget allocations.

  • Support EANGUS National Engagement: Be highly encouraged to attend the EANGUS National Conference each year to represent California, participate in national discussions, and collaborate with other state associations.

  • Advocate for the Association: Present information about CAL EANGUS at military units, drills, conferences, and community events, encouraging membership, engagement, and legislative awareness.

  • Maintain Communication: Regularly communicate with members, regional directors, and committees to ensure alignment with the association’s mission and priorities.

  • Lead by Example: Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect in all interactions while representing the association.

  • Support Fundraising and Membership Efforts: Participate in campaigns that promote membership growth, scholarships, and charitable initiatives.

  • Stay Informed: Remain current on legislative priorities, state and national Guard issues, and association activities to effectively represent the membership.

  • Commit to Teamwork: Collaborate with other board members and volunteers to ensure the success of CAL EANGUS programs and initiatives.

We are opening nominations for four elected leadership positions on the CAL-EANGUS Executive Council:

• President – Three-Year Term
• Vice President – Three-Year Term
• Member-at-Large (Annual) – Two-Year Term
• Member-at-Large (Life) – Two-Year Term

Whether you have been involved with CAL-EANGUS for years or are looking for your first opportunity to become more engaged, we encourage you to consider stepping forward.

PRESIDENT — Three-Year Term

The President serves as the senior elected leader of CAL-EANGUS and Chair of the Executive Council. This position provides leadership and direction for the Association while ensuring the priorities and decisions of our membership are carried forward.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Presiding over General and Special Conferences and meetings of the Executive Council
  • Providing leadership and strategic direction for CAL-EANGUS
  • Convening the Executive Council as necessary
  • Appointing standing committees and committee leadership
  • Serving as an ex-officio member of Association committees
  • Preparing the proposed annual budget for review
  • Providing an annual report to the membership
  • Representing CAL-EANGUS and California’s enlisted force at appropriate state and national events
  • Working with the Executive Council, Executive Director, committees, and members to advance the mission of the Association

This position requires an engaged leader who is willing to dedicate time to the Association, communicate with our membership, build partnerships, and represent the interests of California’s enlisted Soldiers, Airmen, retirees, veterans, and families.

VICE PRESIDENT — Three-Year Term

The Vice President serves as a voting member of the Executive Council and works closely with the President in carrying out the mission and priorities of CAL-EANGUS.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the President and Executive Council
  • Performing duties assigned by the President consistent with the bylaws
  • Participating actively in Executive Council meetings and Association activities
  • Performing the duties of the President during the President’s absence or incapacity
  • Assuming the office of President should a vacancy occur during the term
  • Helping strengthen membership engagement, advocacy, outreach, and organizational initiatives

Candidates should be prepared not only to support the current work of the Association, but also to develop the knowledge and experience necessary to lead CAL-EANGUS when called upon.

MEMBER-AT-LARGE (ANNUAL) — Two-Year Term

The Annual Member-at-Large serves as a voting member of the Executive Council and helps ensure the perspectives of our Annual Members are represented in Association decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating as a voting member of the Executive Council
  • Representing the interests and perspectives of Annual Members
  • Serving on the Committee on Audits
  • Participating in the annual audit of CAL-EANGUS finances and accounts
  • Helping preserve and maintain Association property and resources
  • Supporting membership, advocacy, events, and outreach initiatives
  • Serving as a direct voice for members in the governance of the Association

We especially encourage our Junior Enlisted Annual Members to consider running. CAL-EANGUS benefits when our Board reflects the force we represent, and serving as a Member-at-Large is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience and help shape the future of the Association.

MEMBER-AT-LARGE (LIFE) — Two-Year Term

The Life Member-at-Large serves as a voting member of the Executive Council and provides representation for CAL-EANGUS Life Members.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating as a voting member of the Executive Council
  • Representing the interests and perspectives of Life Members
  • Serving on the Committee on Audits
  • Participating in the annual audit of CAL-EANGUS finances and accounts
  • Helping preserve and maintain Association property and resources
  • Providing continuity and institutional perspective to the Executive Council
  • Supporting Association programs, advocacy, membership, events, and outreach

WHO CAN RUN?

In accordance with the CAL-EANGUS Bylaws, officers must be CAL-EANGUS members in good standing and may not hold Honorary or Associate membership.

The Annual Member-at-Large position represents Annual Members, while the Life Member-at-Large position represents Life Members.

Most importantly, we are looking for members who are willing to show up, participate, bring ideas forward, and help move CAL-EANGUS forward.

You do not need to have previously served on the Board to make a difference. If you care about our enlisted force and want to help strengthen the voice of California’s National Guard community, we encourage you to consider serving.
