Exciting news for all Veteran Retirees!

The Senate Budget Subcommittee #4 has adopted the Governor’s military retirement pay exemption language (RN 2510165), which means that military retirement pay may soon be exempt from state taxes. This is a critical step forward for our community.

I have reached out to the Assembly to find out if we can expect similar action there before the 2025–26 Budget Bill is signed. We are committed to keeping you informed of any updates and progress on this matter.

What is a Budget Trailer Bill (TBL) and What Happens Next?
  • Trailer bills (TBLs) are special bills used to enact legal changes necessary to implement the budget. They are not required to be passed by the June 15 budget deadline and can be introduced and voted on at any time while the Legislature is in session.

  • TBLs take effect immediately once signed by the Governor and usually require only a majority vote.
