CAL EANGUS is proud to stand in strong support of Senate Bill 694 (Archuleta) – The Veteran Benefits Protection Act, a critical piece of legislation designed to safeguard California veterans from financial exploitation by unaccredited and predatory actors—commonly known as “claim sharks.”
For years, these bad-faith businesses have profited by charging veterans thousands of dollars for services that should be free, submitting error-filled claims, delaying rightful benefits, and eroding trust in the system designed to serve those who served us.
SB 694 empowers the California Attorney General to take action against these deceptive practices, reinforcing long-standing federal protections and ensuring veterans are not left financially or emotionally burdened by bad actors posing as helpers.
This bill does not restrict a veteran’s ability to seek assistance—it simply holds individuals and companies accountable when they violate the law or take advantage of vulnerable veterans for profit.
