One of the greatest strengths of the enlisted force is our collective voice. When National Guard members, retirees, veterans, family members, and supporters speak together, policymakers listen.

That is why CAL EANGUS is encouraging every member to take a few minutes to support two important legislative initiatives currently being championed by EANGUS: the National Guard Relief Act and the Major Richard Star Act.

National Guard Relief Act

For generations, active-duty service members have had access to official military relief societies that provide emergency financial assistance during times of hardship. Unfortunately, no equivalent organization exists specifically for the National Guard.

The National Guard Relief Act would change that by establishing an official military welfare society dedicated to serving National Guard members and their families. This organization would provide emergency assistance and support to Guardsmen facing unexpected financial challenges, helping strengthen the readiness and resilience of our force.

National Guard members answer the call at home and abroad, responding to natural disasters, civil emergencies, overseas deployments, and federal missions. They deserve access to the same level of support available to their active-duty counterparts.

Major Richard Star Act

The Major Richard Star Act seeks to correct a long-standing injustice affecting combat-injured military retirees.

Under current law, many medically retired service members are forced to forfeit a portion of their earned military retirement pay in order to receive VA disability compensation. These benefits were earned separately—one through years of military service and the other through sacrifice resulting from service-connected injuries.

The Major Richard Star Act would allow these combat-injured retirees to receive both benefits in full, recognizing their service and sacrifices without penalty.

The legislation enjoys strong bipartisan support, but Congress must take action to bring it to a vote. Every constituent message helps demonstrate the importance of this issue to lawmakers.

Why EANGUS Is Engaged

As the Voice of the Enlisted National Guard, EANGUS advocates for policies that improve the lives of currently serving Guard members, retirees, veterans, and military families.

Legislative success does not happen by accident. It requires a coordinated effort between advocacy organizations and engaged members willing to make their voices heard. While EANGUS works directly with lawmakers and coalition partners in Washington, D.C., elected officials place significant value on hearing from the people they represent.

Simply put, your voice matters.
